KERRI SIMSPON "MAYBE BY MIDNIGHT" $15
"Kerri Simpson has gone up the country. In the nicest possible
sense. Call it alt country, call it country roots, call it what
you like, there is no mistaking the deliberate venture into new
territory. And it is simply brilliant! I have never heard a voice
more obviously suited to the genre. There is power, there is light
and shade, there are tinges of pure emotion and vocal edges that
would please Ms Patsy." John Carver PBS FM

PETER BAYLOR "I HEAR THE ROAD" $25
"This is the sound of tearing thirstily down
a long, straight, empty road towards a crowded bar with a hot jukebox.
The songs are crisp, tight and witty, the playing fierce or lyrical
as the moment demands. This is the 100th release from Graeme Thomas'
defiantly tubular and analog Preston studio." Ken Williams,
The Age

C. W. STONEKING "KING HOKUM" $25
The most startlingly original album anybody's heard
this year! There's a lot of wierd shit being thrown around about
this record and some of it's true, but rest assured, it's real!
Recommended big time!

SHANE HOWARD "SONGS OF LOVE AND RESISTANCE"
$30
Shane Howard has surely by now earned the title of
national treasure, and his ninth solo album is a further homage
to simplicity and heartfelt honesty. His gentle love songs sit comfortably
alongside the political and subtly seditious - God knows we need
such voices now! "Shane Howard has been on the road for
a long time now. His art is the story of a man who opened himself
to every kind of truth he met along the way and continued as he
began, gentle, loving and defiant." Martin Flanagan

FAVOURITES " $25
Sunshine Harvester became finalists this year in three
categories of the Victorian Country Music Awards including; best
female vocal, best group and best song for 2005's self-titled debut
album. Now they launch their highly anticipated follow-up - Between
Trains - a collection of bluegrass standards as well as obscure
gems featuring songs of the Stanley Brothers through to Richard
Thompson. A stellar line-up signed on for this recording including;
Hamish Davidson of the Davidson Brothers on banjo and Lachlan Dear
of Hardrive on acoustic bass. Paul Jonas (fiddle, harmonies) and
Peter Fidler (dobro) joined Moana Kerr (vocals, guitar), Leo Kahans

JORDIE LANE "LOVER'S RIDE" $15

 |
MAURICE FRAWLEY & THE YARD HANDS "GOOD
THINGS" $25
New release from one of the unsung heroes of Australian
music. His new band are all crack country players, with Garrett
Costigan's pedal steel playing a standout. At his finest, Frawley
conjures up home-grown bar-room poetry of great resonance and poignancy.
A soulful outing by a hometown diamond in the rough.

LIZ STRINGER "SOON" $25
Sensational new album from another hugely talented
young local, and one of the strongest debuts I reckon I've heard
in - well, just about ever! Liz Stringer is a strong and beautifully
expressive singer, a gutsy guitarist, plays fearless banjo and soulful
harmonica, and writes great songs of dark beauty - sweet, sad, soulful
and scary, hard-won and very moving. This is an album of great emotional
resonance - compelling, captivating and as addictive as hell.
